1Chronicles 4:9-10 "And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren than his brethren: and his mother called him Jabez, saying, Because I bare him in sorrow.
And Jabez called on the name of Lord God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! and God granted him that which he requested."
Often times when we talk about Jabez and his prayer, we make the mistake of saying that Jabez was a low class and a nobody. A careful examination of verse 9 of the scripture above points that Jabez was more HONOUARABLE than his brethren. What that means is that in his family, he was a star; the best among his brothers and sisters. He was the most respected in the entire family in-spite of his name.
One quality worthy of note however from verse 10 is the quality of dissatisfaction. Despite his status, he saw and thought there was more to him than he already was. He saw that there was more honour outside the family purview. Beyond being a blessing to his family, he saw that he could be a blessing to people beyond his family. That dissatisfaction led him to pray that prayer in verse 10.
Whatever you are and whoever you are now, you can be better. What ever level you are in life now, is not your best yet. Don't give up but call upon the name of the Lord like Jabez did.
If you can foot the bills of your family today, it means that on your inside is the ability to foot the bills of others apart from your family. If you drive a car today, it means that on your inside lies the ability to buy cars for others. Never think you're at your best yet for God has arrayed treasures in you that are beyond your imagination.
You can be better than you are today!
